#11 Markthalle auf dem Weg nach Kaunas / Market hall on the way to Kaunas

Auf dem Weg nach Kaunas haben wir uns mal wieder verlaufen. Das heißt, wir haben den Bahnhof mit dem Punkt in Vilnius verwechselt, der auf Google Maps ebenfalls „Vilnius“ heißt. Nicht so schlimm – so haben wir an dem Tag auch was von Vilnius gesehen.

On the way to Kaunas we got lost again. That is, we confused the station with the point in Vilnius, which is also called „Vilnius“ on Google Maps. Not so bad – that way we also got to see something of Vilnius that day.

Diese Kirche sieht anderen hier zum Verwechseln ähnlich. / This church looks confusingly similar to others here.

Wir kamen an einigen Museen vorbei, die ich am liebsten direkt besucht hätte – und an dem Rathaus Vilnius‘, das wie ein Theater (oder das Literaturhaus Frankfurt) aussieht.

We passed a few museums that I would have loved to visit directly – and Vilnius‘ city hall, which looks like a theatre (or Frankfurt’s Literaturhaus).

Um 18 Uhr sollte auf dem Rathausplatz ein Orchester spielen, aber wir würden nicht rechtzeitig zurück sein.

An orchestra was supposed to play in the town hall square at 6pm, but we wouldn’t be back in time.

Wenn du dein Ticket im Bahnhof kaufst, solltest du Zeit einplanen. Wir mussten am Ticketschalter gute fünf Minuten anstehen. Dafür kostete das Ticket nach Kaunas nur 3,20€. Für den Rückweg sollten wir nur 2,75€ zahlen. Beides mit unserem internationalen Studierendenausweis, der ISIC card, mit der ich auch mein reduziertes Monatsticket bekam und vergünstigten Eintritt. Den Studierendenausweis der Universität Vilnius scheine ich bisher tatsächlich nur für die Bibliothek zu benötigen. Aber da der Zeit braucht, rate ich jedem: Besorg dir zu Beginn deiner Studienzeit in Vilnius die ISIC card!

If you buy your ticket at the station, you should allow time. We had to queue at the ticket counter for a good five minutes. But the ticket to Kaunas was only 3.20€. For the way back, we only had to pay 2.75€. Both with our international student ID, the ISIC card, which I also used to get my reduced monthly ticket and reduced entrance fee. So far, I only seem to need the Vilnius University student card for the library. But since it takes time, I advise everyone to get the ISIC card at the beginning of your studies in Vilnius!

Der Zug war hypermodern ausgestattet mit Steckdosen, automatischer Toilettentüröffnung und Anzeigetafeln, wo auf der Landkarte der Zug genau ist, wie schnell er fährt und wie warm es draußen ist. Nur die genaue Ankunftszeit konnte ich nicht entdecken. Die Fahrt dauerte ungefähr eineinhalb Stunden, an Kiefernwäldern, Grünflächen und freilaufenden Ochsen vorbei.

The train was hyper-modern with power sockets, automatic toilet door opening and display panels showing exactly where the train was on the map, how fast it was going and how warm it was outside. Only the exact arrival time I could not discover. The journey took about an hour and a half, past pine forests, green spaces and free-roaming oxen.
